The following individuals are currently serving on the MoEd board of directors.

 

Pnina Laric, President of the Board

Pnina Laric holds a master’s degree in biotechnology from The Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in physiology and neurobiology with a minor in Hebrew language from the University of Maryland, College Park. Pnina has worked at the National Institutes of Health for nearly twenty years, the last half of which have been in the training and education space. Pnina lives in Silver Spring, Maryland with her husband and two children.

 

Phil Avner, Secretary

Phil Avner holds degrees in Engineering and Journalism, and works as a technology development manager in the news media industry.  His (grown) children attended local Jewish day schools, public schools, and the Shoresh supplemental Jewish high school.  He was among the founders of Shoresh.

 

Elizabeth Weber Handwerker, Treasurer

Elizabeth Weber Handwerker holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley and a bachelor's degree with honors from Swarthmore College.  She works as a research economist.   Together with her husband, Daniel, she started the effort to create MoEd because they wanted this program for their children.

Elicia Blumberg, Board Member

Elicia Blumberg holds a M.Sc. in Environmental Quality from Tel Aviv University and works in the international development field, specializing in capacity building and training. She lives in Silver Spring with her husband and two children, who are long-time, highly enthusiastic MoEd participants.

jonathan Feldman, Board Member

Jonathan Feldman is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, holds a masters degree in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park and a bachelor's degree with honors in Mathematics from Brandeis University. He currently works as a consulting actuary for Taft-Hartley multiemployer (union) pension funds throughout the United States. Jonathan’s family attends Ohr Kodesh Congregation and his three children attend public schools, the Ohr Kodesh religious school and MoEd.

Stefan Gottschalk, Board Member

Stefan Gottschalk is a lawyer and accountant in Washington, DC.  He is a graduate of NYU school of law, has been admitted to the bar in New York State, and is an Illinois Registered Certified Public Accountant.

 

Maxine grossman, BOARD MEMBER

Maxine Grossman holds a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and is an associate professor in the Jewish Studies Program at the University of Maryland. Her two sons attend Milton JPDS and MoEd.

Darius D. Sivin, Board Member

Darius D. Sivin  holds a Ph.D.  from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.  He works in Occupational Health and Safety for the United Auto Workers. He is a member of the Board of the National Havurah Committee and a former member of the coordinating committee for Minyan Segulah.  His son, Lev, attends MoEd and Fabrangen Cheder.  Darius teaches Midrash and prayer to 11-year olds at Fabrangen Cheder.
